all about Mundo Revés

M

undo Reves is the project of two young French winemakers who arrived in Argentina ten years ago to make low-intervention and terroir wines.

They both discovered in Argentina a viticulture and a style of wine very different from what they were used to in France. They found in the Argentinian terroir a huge potential and felt there was a great opportunity to accomplish their dream (Revés means “dream” in French) in such a fantastic country.

After working for several years in different wineries and traveling along all the vineyards of Mendoza, they decided to focus on the Uco valley and to make their own wines there. They spotted special places (Altamira, Cepillo, Chacayes and Gualtallary, among others) to make special wines out of grapes like Bonarda, Cabernet Franc, Semillon, Sauvignon blanc, Criolla and obviously Malbec.

Thibault and Quentin graduated with degrees in enology in France and followed, after many years of making wines in different parts of the world, a path to a less interventionist, less university-trained, more spontaneous and natural enology. Gradually, they reduced the use of oenological products until none were used at all. The properties of the lees, skins (whites in skin contact), stems (reds without sulfites) and natural acidity are used to protect the wines and to accompany them in their aging and evolution. This enology, without the use of oenological products, requires more attention for a better understanding of the wine and its grapes so as to be closer to the genuine expression of the terroir.

Mundo Reves wines are an invitation to travel to the Argentinian vineyards, its “mountain culture” and landscapes, but most importantly, they are an invitation to an inner journey, to discover the Argentinian wines through a new perspective.

THE FRENCH

WINEMAKERS

Both winemakers, Quentin Pommier and Thibault Lepoutre, were born and studied in France and came to Argentina after having done some vintages in different countries.

QUENTIN

POMMIER

Quentin Pommier was born in 1981 in France. He discovered wine in his childhood through his grandfather who had always made his own wine.

After studying in wine regions such as Bordeaux and Burgundy, he graduated in oenology at the University of Montpellier (Languedoc). Then, he decided to explore and work in wine regions all over the world, from Chateauneuf du Pape, France, to New Zealand, via Priorat in Spain. Finally, he settled down in Mendoza, Argentina where he started making the Mundo Revés wines.

THIBAULT

LEPOUTRE

Thibault Lepoutre was born in 1984 in France. He studied agronomy in northern France and then went to the ENSAM of Montpellier where he graduated in agronomy and oenology.

After a few vintages in France (Bordeaux and Champagne), he worked for two years in Ukraine, and one year and a half in southern Brazil and Portugal (Douro). He came to Argentina in 2012 to work for the Piedra Negra winery, the estate of Francois Lurton in Chacayes, Uco valley, and after a few years he became the director of this winery. As the manager of the winery, he focused on changing the agriculture of the whole estate in organic agriculture, adding also biodynamic practices. Besides, he actively participated in the creation of the G.I. Los Chacayes, one of the very first and most prestigious appellations in Mendoza.

Since 2017, he has also been in charge of Hacienda Araucano, the biodynamic estate (26 ha) Francois Lurton owns in Lolol Colchagua (Chile). When Thibault met Quentin, they decided to work together on the project of Mundo Reves, exploring the Uco valley and its fantastic vineyards.
